What if, every night, you had the same dream? What if, every night, it kept coming back? What if, every night, it would follow you and attack you in the midst of your sleepy place? Perhaps that happens to no one. Perhaps that happens to everyone. What if your very existence is all a dream? As a friend recently pointed put to me, "you know how when you have dreams where you die, you usually wake up just before you die? What if your very existence is just a dream, where just before you die in what you think is your life, you wake up to another dream?" Well, that wasn't quite what they said, but that was pretty much it.
I have a dream. The same type of dream every night. All of my theories about the existence of life pour theirselves into my dream. Apparently my mind thinks that it does not have time to worry about the existence of life during the day, so you could say wondering if we even exist is my night job.
This dream, all these ideas, constantly swirling around in my mind as I sleep, shouting at me that it's staring me right in the face. The answer. Waiting for me. In my mind. Maybe I'll find out tonight. Will you?
I like how you said "wondering if we even exist is my night job".
