Black Friday and 'Song of the Week'

Hello everyone! I hope y'all are having a fantastic day! For those of you in America, I hope you guys are staying inside on Black Friday. Yes, I'm aware there are fabulous deals, but you can stay inside (safe and unharmed) and go shopping online. I'll admit that I actually ventured outside today )instead of staying inside wrapped in a blanket as I have done every other year of my life) and I went shopping. The experience wasn't horrible, but I certainly don't intend  to go shopping outside of my computer on my couch with hot cocoa at my side ever again.
With that said, I have news for you all!
Every Saturday (EST in the USA) I will be posting for a new segment I'm starting called "Song of the Week". This will be a song that I feel is something of significance, importance, a good message, or just a song that I feel at least some of us can relate to. I'll be including comments on why I chose this song to be the song of the week and hopefully you guys will be able to connect with it as well, and perhaps my writing will give you a new perspective on the song. Let me know in comments!

Don't forget to subscribe to my blog by typing in your email in the subscription box to the right!!

Alright my readers, keep an eye out for my posts tomorrow because tomorrow afternoon, I'll be releasing the kick-off of my brand new segment "Song of the Week"!

For all of us on Blogger, all around the world, have a great day.

Quote of the Day

Alas, the time has come for the final "Quote of the Day" of today's special quoting frenzy to bring back the segment. I think the following quote is one of the top two, if not the top winner of the quotes I've posted today. I hope y'all enjoy!

Quote #5 (finale) of the return of the segment:

“ 'Thank you'  is the best prayer that anyone could say. I say that one a lot. Thank you expresses extreme gratitude, humility, understanding.” Alice Walker

Whoa! This is so true. I know that those of you in America have probably already said "thank you" a million times today because of Thanksgiving, but for those of you who haven't said it today, think of someone or something that you are thankful for, and say "thank you". Out loud. Right now. Try saying "thank you" at least once a day, and really, really mean it. Whether someone saves your life from a poisonous rattle snake, or someone picks up and returns to you a penny you dropped on the ground, say thank you. It's amazing to hear it, and it feels even better to say it to someone and really mean it. Giving back, that's what it's all about. Saying "thank you" is the best way to give back.

Signing off with warm wishes and happy thoughts to all,

Carol

Quote of the Day

Mmm what a lovely time of year this is! Thanksgiving, sweater weather, fall leaves, kindness, gratitude, and so many more lovely things of this beautiful season! Recently some of you contacted me asking me to bring back "Quote of the Day" today, so here it is you lovely readers, you. Scroll back through my other posts today to see the other quotes I posted today! :) I hope you enjoy this one:

Quote #4 of the return of the segment:

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” Oprah Winfrey

I actually think this is a really awesome quote. It's message is simple, but so, so true. This is something a lot of people need to work on, whether or not they realize they're concentrating on what they don't have, especially with Black Friday coming up in America. I even catch myself thinking about that sometimes, but I just remind myself of all the wonderful things I do have. A loving family, the best of friends, food on my table, a roof over my head, a great school, and so much else that I care so much about. Look, I'm not a millionaire, and I doubt that a lot of you reading this are, but we all have at least something we are thankful for. Those are the things you should think about, not about not having the coolest iPhone or the newest sports car. I really hope this message sticks with you guys.

Quote of the Day

I hope you guys are having a marvelous day today and that you are enjoying the quotes I'm posting in the return of the segment "Quote of the Day". Some of you contacted me and requested me to bring it back today, so I just want to say thank you so much, it was so lovely to see that you guys truly cared about it. Without further ado, another quote!

Quote #3 of the return of the segment:

“We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.” John F. Kennedy

I just want to say that this is totally true. It's a really great message and it's something we should all try to do a little more of, including me. I hope you remember this quote.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! :D

Quote #2 of the return of the segment:

“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.” G.K. Chesterton

Quote of the Day Return

Whoo-hoo! I hope you all are having a good day, because it's about to be a great one! For some of you long-time readers, I'm bringing back an old segment called "Quote of the Day". I've been intending to bring it back for a while, and recently some of you convinced me to really bring it back when you guys sent in requests to bring it back on this special day: Thanksgiving. Well today is that special day, and because it is not only a holiday but also the return of the segment, I'll be posting more than one for y'all to enjoy today. Keep a look out for some special quotes today!

Quote #1 of the return of the segment:

“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving from Arizona! I hope you all are having a marvelous day of celebration with your loved ones. Personally, I am a vegetarian so I don't take part in eating Turkey, but for those of you who do, I hope your meal is spectacular and you have the best of days today! Warm wishes to all!

Quote of the Day (part 2)

Hey everyone! I'm doing another 'Quote of the Day' because I think it's a really awesome quote and you all should hear it.

"To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world." -Unknown

I think this is a beautiful, wonderful quote and I hope you all realize the truth in it. Each and every one of you is beautiful, and amazing, and wonderful, and joyously human. Don't let go of that.

Anyway, I hope you guys see the truth in this quote if you haven't already. And you know what? Pass it around! Spread this quote everywhere you can to let those around you know that they are loved. Good luck, have fun, and have a great evening everyone!

Xoxo,

Elaine

Quote of the Day

I've been reading a classic American novel named "Uncle Tom's Cabin". In reading this book, I remembered a quote from the movie Ever After.

"If you suffer your people to be ill-educated, and their manners corrupted from infancy, and then punish them for those crimes to which their first education disposed them, what else is to be concluded, sire, but that you first make thieves and then punish them?" -Danielle de Barbarac

Happiness Challenge

I challenge all of you. Yes you, right there! I challenge you to text 10 people saying "Be happy". Nice and simple like that. Just say "Be happy". Trust me, it'll make a difference. There are over 900 of you, and if you all text ten people, then that means that over 9,000 people across the globe will receive texts saying "Be happy". How amazing is that? So go ahead! Spread the word! Make a difference.

Quote of the Day

"I regret nothing in my life, even if my past is full of hurt, I still look back and smile, because it made me who I am today." - Unknown

This quote really speaks to me because my past is full of hurt and loss, but now I'm living the happiest moments of my life. I recognize that I wouldn't be nearly as grateful each and every day for the life I live now, if it weren't for my past. So if you have any bad memories that you just want to erase from your life, any hurtful memories you can't get out of your head, stop pushing them away. Look back on them and smile because you are beautiful and amazing just the way you are, and if it weren't for your past, you wouldn't be who you are today. Good luck to all and have a great day!

Quote of the Day

"When you find something that makes you happy, then you can't give up on it, no matter what." ~"Holly", The Mistletones.

I'm posting this because I believe it's true- everything about it. How many of you out there have found something that just makes you so happy, you can't even think about it for a second without smiling like a lunatic? I know I have. I also know I can't let it go. For those of you out there who have already found something like that, DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, give up on it. For those of you who are still searching: stop searching. You've already found it. You just don't know it. It doesn't matter how bad of a situation you are in, because there is always light in the dark. That light is the one thing in this world that makes you happier than anything else. Hold onto that light and never let go.

Quote of the Day

Quote of the day today:

“Some people live more in 20 years than others do in 80. It’s not the time that matters, it’s the person.” — The Doctor, Season 3, Episode 6

I'm posting this because I really do find a deep connection to it. I think this is completely true- everything in the quote, and I hope you all find a connection with it as well.

Goodbye middle school. I'll treasure the memories.

Quote of Day

My sincere apologies for not posting yesterday.

Quote for yesterday: “You want weapons? We’re in a library! Books! The best weapons in the world!” — The Doctor, Season 2, Episode 2

Quote for today: “This is one corner… of one country, in one continent, on one planet that’s a corner of a galaxy that’s a corner of a universe that is forever growing and shrinking and creating and destroying and never remaining the same for a single millisecond. And there is so much, so much to see.” — The Doctor, Season 7, Episode 4

Happiness

Some people say that being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, but that it means you've decided to look past the imperfections. Others say that happiness comes from within and is found in the present moment by making peace with the past and looking forward to the future. Then, there are some others who are content to say that happiness is a cup of coffee and a really good book. Here's what I say:

I think happiness is a flower blooming in your garden. Happiness is seeing it rain outside and dashing out into it, dancing with glee. Happiness is seeing a smile on your father's face. Happiness is pouring hot water from the kettle for afternoon tea. Happiness is embracing the warm hug of a familiar friend. Happiness is a broken beauty.

Only Gold Can Stay- Robert Frost

To Charity S.

A year ago today you recited this poem to me, and I'm so happy you did. I love this poem and am glad to share it with others now as you did to me. Thank you.

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leafs a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Nature

An imitation poem of "Benediction" by James Berry.

Thanks to the brook
That someone may wade through.

Thanks to the birds
That someone may sing to.

Thanks to the trees
That someone may climb.

Thanks to the ground
That someone may walk upon.

Thanks to forests of the deep
And woods of the wild,
Keeping one with nature, and nature with one.

Haven of Nature

This is a poem I wrote in the beginning of last year.

Leaves swirling,
To the
Sun-dappled earth.
Church bells singing,
While pigeons coo.
Bird house swaying
In the peaceful breeze.
Honey-golden flowers
Dance,
To the music of the air.

"One Drop" by Plumb

Let me know what you guys think.

I need you, and you need me
Left alone, we will never be who we could be
So take my hand and, don't forget that
We can do anything together

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Just one drop of your love
A single ray of sun
Just one thing to change the world
It's just you and me
Starting with a dream
And giving it all we've got
Only takes one drop
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)
Only takes one drop
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)
Only takes one drop
Only takes one drop

Come with me now, look and see how
There's an ocean overflowing with our hope so
Let's jump in and, take a swim, it's
You and me, yeah forever

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Just one drop of your love
A single ray of sun
Just one thing to change the world
It's just you and me
Starting with a dream
And giving it all we've got
Only takes one drop
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)
Only takes one drop
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)
Only takes one drop
Only takes one drop

I need you, and you need me
We can do anything together

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Just one drop of your love
A single ray of sun
Just one thing to change the world
It's just you and me
Starting with a dream
And giving it all we've got
Only takes one drop
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)
Only takes one drop
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)
Only takes one drop
Only takes one drop

"God's Not Dead" Movie Review

About ten minutes ago, I finished viewing a new movie titled, God's Not Dead. Intrigued by the trailer, I decided to purchase it at a local Target yesterday. Upon watching it today, I became not only captivated by the astounding performance of the actors, but also fascinated at how much this movie captured the truth of this:

Yes, there is debate over whether or not God is alive. Yes, everyone has a different perspective on the topic. And yes, anyone can take a stand for their belief.

Anyway,
the movie starts out with a college freshman named Josh, who decides to take on a philosophy class. A college administrator tries to warn Josh upon finding out he is Christian. Josh takes the class anyway and finds out his professor doesn't believe in God. The first task of class as the professor so flatly stated, "I want you to write three words on this piece of paper with your signature." (I'd just like to point out now that I am not directly quoting the movie throughout any of this.) "I want you to write the words 'God is dead'." As everyone writes this out, Josh cannot go against his belief. The professor, clearly annoyed by this, presents a challenge to Josh, saying that in the last twenty minutes of the next three classes, Josh may give an argument defending his belief in God.

And thus the debate began.

Now, I won't tell you any more for I don't want to spoil anything about the movie. I will say this, however, that I thoroughly enjoyed watching it (even more so than I had anticipated) and I recommend it to all of you. Perhaps not children, but to all the teens and adults out there: whatever your beliefs are, however against God, with God, or neutral you currently are to Him, watch this movie. It changed my life.

Quote of the Day

“We’re all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?” — "The Doctor" Steven Moffat, Season 5, Episode 13

The reason I chose to post this quote today is not simply because I watch the British TV show, "Doctor Who", but because I feel this quote is absolutely fantastic. It's so small, but it has one of the biggest meanings in the world. It's true: all of us are stories. And all of us can make our stories. We aren't fixed plot lines going on along our lines, like words in a book. We are stories, yes, but we are not stories in books. We can change our stories, change who we are and where we're going. Make sure you don't follow somebody else's path along the way- follow yours. Just be sure you make the right decisions along the way.

Writing

For me, writing is almost my own realm filled with the beauty of literature where wonder and words come together as one, forever entwined, marking an imprint of theirselves on my pen, on my page, on my life. I hope you all experience this as well when you write. Writing is so amazing--it's unlike anything else in the world. Everyone writes differently in their own ways. Writing isn't something everybody appreciates, but it's something everyone can do. So, whatever your feelings are about writing, do one favor for me.

WRITE!

Well go on, then. It doesn't have to be long, or short, or have any sense of conformity. Just write what you want to write. Share it! Spread your creativity to those around you! Ask others to do what I'm asking of you. It doesn't have to be many people. It can even be one person. But think about it: to the world, it may be just one person, but to that one person, you just gave them the world. The world of writing.

Quote of the Day

“The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.”
— "The Doctor" Steven Moffat, Season 5, Episode 10

Quote of the Day (and Yesterday)

Sorry guys! I couldn't get on my blog yesterday, so I couldn't do the quote of the day. So I'm doing two today!

"Be yourself, everyone else is already taken." ― Unknown

“In the space between yes and no, there's a lifetime. It's the difference between the path you walk and the one you leave behind; it's the gap between who you thought you could be and who you really are."

Quote of the Day

So I've decided to start a new event on my blog called the "Quote of the Day". What I'll be doing is posting a new quote each day that I feel has a signifigant meaning and importance to it. So without further ado, the quote of the day: "We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who really are." -"Sirius Black" J.K. Rowling, Order of the Phoenix.

Choices

This is a paragraph from the new book I am writing. Comment and let me know what you think!!

We all have stories, and we all make choices. It is these choices that make our stories, that make us. Sometimes we don't even realize the power of our choices for we don't know how greatly a small decision can impact our story. Yet it does. In fact, every tiny decision we make, sets our story onto a new branch on the tree of our lives. Whether or not you choose to eat breakfast that morning, to give a friend a hug, or to smile brightly to a complete stranger as you pass each other on the sidewalk. These choices have power. These choices change our stories. These choices, change us. Forever more shall the choices change you.

A Tractor Ride

A shadowed path,
Of dark and light.
Opposites.
Combining not only as one,
But equal harmony.

Walking Camelback

A green forest surrounds us,
Trees stand tall and proud,
Protecting us
From the scorching sun.

Sounds and scents of nature
Fill the air.

As nature becomes one with me,
And I,
I become one with nature.

Walking Home: My Last Sunset on Saturday Evening

A fiery ember
Glows in the distance.

The red-orange light
Radiates through the trees.

It sends a last ray of hope,
And fades into the earth.

Darkness engulfs my world,
And a single moon rises,
Giving hope for tomorrow,
From yesterday.

The Edge of Everything

Pale green water,
Inches toward the shore.
Waves ripple at the edge.

A gentle breeze,
Slowly flows by.
As I sit
On the edge of everything.

Remember

Whisps of clouds
Provide no shade
Under the scorch,
Of the burning sun.

The lake ripples,
As the hush of the gentle breeze
Rolls by.

Whispering the names
Of those long forgotten.

My Last Sunset on Saturday Evening

Sunset lit the field,
Glowing in fiery embers.

I looked upon the sea of grass,
And beyond to the lake.

Silence.

Just nature,
Beauty.

Nature

A lake glistening,
Under the bright rays of the sun.
Sounds of nature
Fill the air.

Trees rustle,
Birds whistle.
And I,
I am one with nature.

Gentle Life

Clouds of white,
Swimming in a sea of blue.
Sunlight rains down,
Upon the field of grass.

Trees speckle the bright haven.
Horses,
Free as the wind.
Blowing softly.

In Silence

In silence,
Sunlight streams in,
Through the windows.

The world around me
Is hushed,
In silence,
As though each being
Waits for the dawn
In silence.

Pine Cone of the Forest

Winter snow,
Falling down below,
The pine tree's crowning jewel.

A glistening heart,
Flaked with snow,
Pine cone of the forest.

The Rooftops of Italy

Dedicated to Charity Smith.

From the rooftops of Italy,
I have the world at my hands.
The sun beaming bright,
As though heaven itself basked in it's beauty.

Blue mountains clouded in fog in the distance,
Miles of Assisi below.
And I crouched upon the rooftops,
The breathtaking beauty capturing my heart.

Cobblestone streets lined the town behind me,
Yet I only cared for the country view before my eyes.
For from the rooftops of Italy,
I have the world at my hands.

Would You?

If I could give you the world, would you take it?

If I could give you millions of dollars in a check, would you take it?

If I could give you the power to see the future, would you take it?

Or would you simply say, "no thanks" and walk away, giving a smile to a stranger who you don't realize you just saved, for giving you any one if those things, this random stranger would have died.

You now know what could've happened. Would you take any of those things and let this stranger who you've never met before die, or would you turn away the offer and save this stranger's life? The decision falls to you.

Sometimes I wonder...

What is it like to live in a fairy tale? To be a princess with a crown upon her head as she strolls through her castle? To have the perfect life. Then I realize, I may not be a princess with a castle and crown, but I lead the perfect life.

Remember

Never let the things you want in life make you forget the things you have.

What is Life?

What is life? They say it is from B to D. From birth to death. But, what's between B and D? It's a C. What is a C though? It is a choice. Life is a matter of choices. Live well, make the right choices, and it will never go wrong.

Thank You

Pain makes you stronger,
Tears make your braver,
Heartbreak makes you wiser.
So thank the past
For a better future.

Choose

Soon we all must face the choice between what is right and what is easy.

On the Eve of Summer

On the eve of summer,
Sunlight aglow,
I watch the sun set,
And it watches me below.

The first night of summer
Is starting tonight.
I feel like a bird,
Free in flight.

Go hug your friends,
Tell them you'll miss them.
They're a part of our hearts,
They glow and glisten.

Forever and always a part of us.

Summer Plans and Why I'm Doing Them

My biggest plans for the summer are to take a class trip to Italy. I'm so excited and honored to be a part of the trip. I've written essays, I've done research, I've watched many documentaries, and now I have the chance to experience the magic myself. I've never traveled internationally, and now I have the chance.
Another plan I'm very excited about is going to Camp Ernst for three weeks in a row! Before I transferred schools, Camp Ernst was the only thing keeping me going. It'll be my last summer as a camper before I work there, and I want it to be memorable. I believe going three weeks in a row will ensure that.
Hopefully, this summer, I'll be able to hang out with my best friend. She lives 950 miles away, so it's a little hard to just come over to her house whenever I want. We're best friends forever, and we love to hang out all the time. Whenever we are in the same room, we just laugh and talk and it really would mean a lot to me to not do that over Skype or FaceTime, but to actually do hang out in person.
Those are some of my summer plans! Please, please comment below some of the plans you're excited about!!

One Week Left to Live. What Would You Do?

Personally, I believe I wouldn't do anything out of the ordinary. I wouldn't want people to treat me differently, or give me special privileges. I'd continue to go to school, do my homework, and enjoy the time I have with my family and friends. I think I'd spend more time playing fetch with my dogs, and I'd probably invite my best friend to come visit. I'd want to see her one last time before I die. I'd write letters, do my Christmas and birthday shopping early, and most of all, continue life as I normally would. Yes, some things would change, but that doesn't mean I'll stop playing DnD with my friends on Wednesdays, or I'll stop walking/jogging with my dogs every night, or that I'll stop being me. All the actions I do, all the decisions I make, are a part of me and if I only have one week left to live, I'm not ever going to stop being myself. There is nothing more important to me than the true value of one being their self.
So, if you only have one week left to live, or even if you think you're going to live for years and years after this, take the time to evaluate if you're really being yourself. There's nothing more valuable than being yourself and trust me when I say, because if you live your life being somebody else or somebody you're not, when you reach the end of your life, you're going to regret it. Don't let anyone else tell you to be somebody you're not. Be you. As Mr. Rodgers would say in his childrens show, "I like you just the way you are."

Goodbye

As the school year draws to an end, I look back at all the fun memories I share with those around me. I couldn't be more grateful to be at the school I am currently attending. To be with my schoolmates and teachers, people who genuinely respect me for me and don't expect me to be anyone else. I pass through the gym and I remember the seniors vs. teens nerf party. I pass my English classroom and I remember acting with fellow classmates for all the plays the class wrote over this year. I pass my History class and I remember the countless times we would burst into song and dance, laughing as we  learn. I pass my Science classroom and I remember play-fighting with a friend over the same seat every class. I sit by my computer at home and remember the sideshow I put together of photos of my friends and I at school. These are the moments I will remember, will treasure in my heart forever. Run and remember.

Short Story

They entered the creepy fairgrounds, hands trembling as they noticed musty, flickering lights making the lurking shadows worse with each flicker. The two teens, Carol and Helen, stuck close together as they walked along the unpaved, dusty fairgrounds at midnight.
"No one has used this place in years," said Helen, nervously peering around the tents.
"It looks like it was abandoned, left to rot," replied Carol, less nervous than Helen. Clink! Something fell to the ground in the distance.
"What was that?" Helen gasped? "You know what? Never mind. Let's just get out of here, while we can!" She started running out but she was immediately stopped short by a hand grasping her arm.
"How can we leave now? There's something here, we have to find out what it is!" Replied Carol, frustrated that Helen wanted to turn and run away because of every little thing. "Look! Something's moving by that barrel," She whispered.
"Ugh you can go investigate, but there is no way you're getting me over there," Carol said, dignified.
"Fine." Helen cautiously padded over to the barrel. Nothing around the outside of it, so whatever it is, it must be inside the dark abyss of the barrel. "Just do this quick," Helen thought to herself. Carefully peering over the edge, Helen looked inside. "Carol! Get over here!"
"What happened? What's over there?!" Carol shouted as she dashed across the grounds to Helen.
"See for yourself," Helen said calmly to Carol.
"Oh my gosh!" Carol gasped as she too looked inside. "It's a sweet, little puppy!"

A Worldwide Issue: Racism

Something I've always felt strongly about is the issue of racism. I am very vocal about being anti-racist and no matter what any laws say, racism is still an issue boiling at the surface today. I am shocked at how cruel one human can be to another simply because of skin color. Our skin color isn't something we can control. I have to wonder what drives people to be so cold-hearted as to turn their nose up at someone who has a different color of skin. Could it really be that people lord themselves over others and discriminate against another human being who is Just Like Them? I find myself questioning this on a daily basis, finding it almost unbelievable; a nightmare turned into a reality. It is real. It needs to be stopped. Treat another person how you would like to be treated. If you show them disrespect, you yourself will gain disrespect. Everything will work out the way it is supposed to. Don't get caught up in petty issues of racism, conformity, bullying etc. Live your life positively. You have the chance to be a better person. Don't miss the opportunity.

About the Author

As a writer, Elaine believes in the power of words. She writes prose and poetry, seeing beauty in both. She wasn't very interested in writing until the sixth grade when she transferred to a new school. The people there helped her figure out who she was and where she was going, especially with writing. Elaine strives to create unique stories that not only reach out to the readers, but also to herself.
When it comes to poetry, Elaine's poetry is often quite thoughtful. She uses description and emotions to her strengths when writing poetry. Nature, family, pain, loss, freedom, and many more topics are Elaine's stage. "All the world's a stage."  A rather famous quote from William Shakespeare. Elaine has always enjoyed reading and writing poetry; she has a passion for poetry and is able to see it in everything.
Some of the great authors that inspired her are: Robert Frost, Charles Dickens, Victoria Holmes, Rick Sowash, Emily Dickinson, and so many others. These authors knew how to create a world of thoughts, emotions, stories, adventures on paper. Nothing but ink and paper. Writing connects with Elaine in a way nothing else can.
Elaine has entered several writing competitions and succeeded beyond what she ever thought she could. "The way I look at writing competitions however, is not a competition but an opportunity to write." Elaine is fourteen and excited to be writing so much in her life. Writing has become something so much more than a strenuous task in elementary school. Writing has grown into her. She will continue to write for the rest of her life. Elaine is so thankful to all who helped her grow into who she is today; an author. Pen and paper, writing. Thank you.

Music

Those who know me should know that music is a large part of my life. I am constantly listening to music because I am so inspired by it. There is so much that can be said in a three minute song. Tell me, what are some of your favorite tracks to listen to? Any genre at all! Personally I listen to about 2-3 genres of music but I love hearing from other people what kind of music they like, why they like it, and what inspires them! So please, comment below. Who knows? Maybe we'll have a similar interest!  Have a great day/night/time, wherever you are.

-Be you.

Summers Near

As the school year draws to an end
We say goodbye to memories and fun of the past
As we say hello to summer.

So many cheer and rejoice
At the end of another year.
Whilst I sit idly by, dreaming of summer's end and the start of a new school year.

Don't get me wrong,
I enjoy summer fun as well.
But I far prefer the hallowed halls of my school.

True, we still have until the end of May,
But at that point,
It'll be the end of an era.

We will say goodbye
To friends and faces of the past
As we say hello to warm sunshine.

In the fall again,
We will say hello to friends
And catch up on Summer events

We will see new faces join us
Some shy and afraid
Some outgoing and happy.

As the school year draws to an end
We say goodbye to memories and fun of the past
As we say hello to summer.

This poem is dedicated to my school, friends, and teachers. I couldn't be happier where I am now; all the people I've met, all the things I've done. This school has helped me figure out who I am and where I'm going. Two dear people to me are leaving next year. Oh many others as well, but I will always miss these two high school English teachers. One of them helped me start this blog. One of them I have only seen in the hallways; she teaches an older high school age group. Yet I will miss both of them. I know now who I am, where I'm going, and what I'm meant to be. Without these two teachers, I wouldn't be the person I am now. I know it may sound ridiculous, but it is true.
So many of my wonderful friends are leaving. I think I speak for all of us when I say that those who leave us are never truly gone. They stay in our hearts forever. Forever and Always.

The Power of Words

I've been having a rough day today, and I received an email just a few minutes ago that really brought me down. There's this one friend I have at my school, and she always knows how to lift me up no matter the depth of my doubt. I texted her telling what the email said, and she knew exactly how to comfort me. First she spoke in her own words, then she actually looked up a quote to make me feel better. It goes:

"If you feel lost, disappointed, hesitant, or weak, return to yourself, to who you are, here and now and when you get there, you will discover yourself, like a lotus flower in full bloom, even in a muddy pond, beautiful and strong." By Masaru Emoto.
The power of words is astounding. I've rediscovered that this evening.

Thank you, dear friend. You know who you are.

Dead Poet's Society

I have recently enjoyed the experience of watching a film entitled, "Dead Poet's Society" with my Literature class at school.
Don't worry, I won't spoil anything.
After watching the completed film, I have figured out what I believe is the main point of the movie. Though my words are simple and few, listen, listen, I'm calling to you. "Carpe diem" is a Latin phrase meaning "seize the day".  If you have also seen the movie, you'll see what I mean by that. If you haven't seen it, then let me say that this film is surrounded and filled with seizing the day. So many risks, so many dangers, yet everyone seizes the day.
My personal opinion of the movie is that it was an intense, eye-opening, and truly miraculous film. Out of all the films I have seen in my life, I have to say that I am most grateful I have seen this one instead of the others.
Naturally this film includes poetry, and I have to say I am so honored to have watched this movie. Poetry is included from real life, and characters created their own poems. This is such a moving movie, and you really connect with the characters. I really think this whole movie is a poem. You don't hear poetry in every line of the movie, but you hear it in the rest of the movie. The characters don't even have to speak. But if you listen, really listen, you can see poetry in everything. This movie created that FANTASTICALLY.
Out of all the movies I could recommend, I would recommend this one. I haven't enjoyed a movie like this in all my life. "Dead Poets Society" is my official favorite film.

"Migrant Mother" Poem

They nestle closer to me,
Their frantic hearts beating on my shoulders
As they turn away from the strange man with the camera.

He tells me to look at him but I turn away.
There is a cruel world out there,
And I intend for it to be seen.

Not as a dark fairy tale that doesn't exist,
But for what it is.

I am a mother.
My children live in this nightmare.
I pray to wake up.

They cling to me with rough hands.
Not like those of a young child, but of a man who has worked hard all his life.
These are my childrens' hands. Why?

My children huddle closer,
Afraid and confused.
Why must life be this way?

Poem About my Favorite Food

Creamy, cheesy, warm.
The light shines off the warm butter,
Steam rising in perfects puffs of hot water.
Right out of a commercial.

The scent wafts upward,
The cheese glistens with the shimmer of fairy dust.
The noodles draped inside.

Poetry

Many people make the (with all due respect) mistake of thinking that poetry is just words on a page. But the truth is, is that poetry is so much more than that. It is a symphony of colors, sounds, sights, and magic. It is a doorway to the heart of each human being that connects us all in a way nothing else in this universe can. It is each brushstroke of writing on a page that when all those brushstroke are put together it creates a beautiful painting of writing that we know as poetry. Poetry is beautiful, sorrowful, angry, funny, creative and so much more that expresses each human emotion into a magical poem that connects us all and connects to us all in different ways that touch our hearts. Poetry is magic.

I see poetry in every second of every day that passes by. I see poetry in the bees that buzz in the air, in a curly lock of a stranger's hair, I see it in every person. We don't need to talk or make eye contact, but it is inspiring how amazing it is to see poetry in each person. I see poetry in the way my chihuahua prances across the kitchen floor, the way my mother goes about the same routine of house chores each day without giving a single complaint. I see it in the way flowers grow in springtime. I see it in my writing. I see it in myself.

Free Write Story

My name is Jessica Bauer, and this is my story.

I was born in a crack in time. The time vortex began to break down. Began to crack. I don't know how, and I don't know why, but from a vortex crack I grew. I was tossed onto this world known by it's inhabitants as 'Earth' like tornado winds whisk flowers from their warm roots embedded in the deep brown dirt: fast like lightning, forceful like roaring ocean waves, and unbeatable like a god.
I have stayed on this earth for millions years. Or less than I second depending on your point of view. I don't change appearance, not once. Since the crack in the vortex I have been alone. I am always alone. I never utter a sound. I never touch anything but the different textures of this earth beneath my feet. I never stop walking. But I am always alone. I always have been and I always will be.
Sometimes I wonder about myself. All the time I see Earth's inhabitants grow old and frail. I see them wither away to nothing while I continue on. I observe them. I watch them grow sick. I watch the pain of their loved ones grow mountainously after one inhabitant falls into eternal sleep. Why am I not this way? I observe everyone and everyone observes me. Yet I never speak to them. Yet somehow they always feel a strong urge to talk to me, and then, act upon that urge. I prefer to not talk. To keep walking. To be alone.
All these creatures consume Earth. I believe they are called humans. All of them appear in different shapes and colors. I'll never understand this strange place. Perhaps that is why I am always alone. Yet sometimes, I long to be understood. To feel the way these humans do. Sometimes humans show happiness. Sometimes they show pain and sorrow. And sometimes, they show anger and aggression.
I may be alone, but that doesn't mean that these humans don't think of me as alone. When they try to talk to me and I don't answer, some grow angry. It's strange. Some humans keep reappearing over time. I think they follow me in my journey. Perhaps they too, are alone. But they don't seem like it. They're always asking me why I don't speak or stop walking. They know I am different. The probably know why. But I don't. Why am I different?
They are the same. They talk, walk, and go about their lives. Pretty soon, some reappearing faces will cast me out. Throw me dirty glances through their crystal clear eyes. It's so easy to feel that I've done something wrong to be different. So easy...

Wake up!

I'm awake now. What a strange dream. I was a girl who wasn't a human. I was different. A first, people tried to accept me by asking questions about me. But I was too different. They cast me out. I had not followed what they believed appropriate social interactions. Yet, in the dream, I felt that I was myself. They didn't accept me though. I was different. Weird. I was blamed for it. Cast out. Alone.
Was this dream telling me something? It feels so familiar. This is my life. This is who I am. I am myself. I am Jessica. I'm weird and I don't talk. And my fellow students don't accept me for it. It's funny how dreams can become so real. Your life pours into those dreams and suddenly you feel more alone than ever. Your mind creates a fictional character whose qualities are yours.
In the dream, they didn't like me- Jessica. They didn't accept her because she was weird. People don't accept me because I'm weird. I'm alone just like Jessica. I'm weird too. I don't talk to anybody, not that people try to talk to me anymore unless its an insult. Sometimes I wish I had friends. Sometimes I wish I understood why I don't have friends. I wish I weren't alone.
Actually, it's alright. I'm myself. I may be a social outcast but I didn't stoop as low as my attackers to conform to their expectations. I stayed myself through everything they threw at me. Maybe that's all I need. To be myself.

Spring Break

So a lot of people I know outside of my own school have been positively howling about spring break for months. I'm excited as much as the next person for spring break but I also really like my school and the education I receive there and wouldn't mind if spring break didn't exist.

But don't get the wrong idea.

I'm still excited for spring break. In fact, today was the last day of school before spring break.

But please, tell me what you're most excited about for break! Or what you've done, or what you're doing now! I'd love to hear about your adventures, so comment below and share your spring break stories with me! :)

If I can, I promise to reply back and let you know my thoughts about your awesome spring break!

Don't feel like you can only comment if you went/are going anywhere or that you have to make up a story; let me know the real events. The real spring break. The real you.

Prompt: You're stuck in between. Of what?

Note: This is a story from a prompt and not in any way my actual life.

Perhaps it's meant to be this way. You're the third wheel. Then the two other friends fight and suddenly you're the most important thing in the world to each of them because you have to pick which one to be BFF's with. First, they cast you aside and be the picture-perfect best friends from a movie whilst you sit there alone. One day they have a fight. They can't get over their egos' so they continue to fight with each other as though all the bad times erase the good times. "The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant." -Doctor Who. Then, in one unique moment, they turn to you. *plot twist* you're now the most important thing in the world and they'll do anything for you to win you over. The sad thing is, is you fall for it. And once you choose, it gets worse. They stop doing what it took to get you. The other friend sulks alone now. The friend you chose feels bad for them. They become friends again and *poof* you're the third wheel again. Is this how life works? You're just a tool, a plaything to use when wanted but to be cast aside to the basement as soon as you stop doing exactly what they want?

No.

Draft from last week.

Once again, sent upstairs. Once again, sent away. Once again, sent to clean.

I flick the bright light on as I realize the storm clouds hovering above my house make the cluttered room far too dark to walk in, let alone clean. "Ugh," I think to myself. "This room is ridiculous. What tornado came into my room with a heavy case of revenge on their mind?" I looked around that over-crowded room and I couldn't believe I had managed to live like this for over a week.
The piles of homework scattered on the musty carpet, dust coating my bookshelves like a warm, wool blanket, and the trash bin overflowing with heaps of crumpled yellow paper, old apple cores, and moldy candy wrappers.

Memory Jar

Hi everybody! So I recently found this amazing idea. It's called a memory jar. It's super fun, creative, and totally easy! Have you ever had those moments when you say or think, "I'm going to remember this for the rest of my life." Well, you can with the memory jar!

What you'll need:

Jar (preferably big)
Paper
Scissors
Tape
Pen/pencil

Instructions (Note: read through before beginning)

First, place your jar in front of you so you can use it as a size reference. Then, take some paper and cut it into a shape you like. (I cut mine into a cloud). Next, write 'Memories 2014' on it, or something like that. You can then draw some cute shapes or drawings you like on it. (I drew stars). Then tape the paper to the jar. Cut more paper into rectangular strips. You're going to write your memories on those. So get writing! When you've written a memory on the piece of paper, fold it up and put it in the jar.

This is super fun and it's an awesome, easy way to remember all your great times this year. At the end of the year, you can look back on all your happy, funny, sad, wonderful memories that you wrote down. Let me know if you guys try it! It's super fun, super creative, and super easy. Hope y'all enjoy it! I took a picture of the memory jar I made in case you guys wanted a visual aid.

Have a great day! Lend a helping hand when you normally wouldn't. Smile when you're down. Be yourself.

The Sun Always Comes Out

Have you ever been uncertain if you're doing the right thing? If maybe it won't turn out like you hoped? That'll turn out worse than what you fear? Comment below what you would do. Comment if you're going through that now or have a friend who is.
Here's what I do. See, I've gone through that panicky, uncertainty phase before a lot and every time, even when it seems like my world is about to end, the sun does come out. My world always gets brighter. Just keep remembering that. The sun will come out for you too. It always does.

A Pencil and Paper

If someone gave me a gift of a pencil and paper, I would start writing immediately about anything and everything I felt inside. I think right now, I would write about the transitions my state has been having between spring and winter weather even though we're in the midst of February. Well actually it's almost March, but we've just gone from sixty degrees to thirty-five degrees in two days.
I would write poetry because when you write poetry instead of prose, you can not only take the words and transform them into a beautiful melody, but you can also give the magical, poetic feel to a poem that you can't create with prose.
A few days ago I wrote a poem about winter. I see winter's beauty like no other season. I would write another poem in a heartbeat without even being asked. If someone gave me a pencil and paper I honestly think I would just sit down and start writing. I've done it many a time before.
Poetry, prose, and writing in general hold a special place in my heart. Whenever I have the chance I can't help but write. Give me a pencil and paper, and I will create a poem.

That Moment

That Moment when you're in a store and you walk up to someone who's working there and ask for a different size of this (insert article of clothing). Then, as they give you that horrifying look, you instantly know can only mean one thing: they don't work there! They're a customer just like you and you've just asked them for a different size of whatever it is you're looking for. If you've ever had that stomach-clenching moment, then know that you are so not alone. I've done this too many times to even laugh about it.
So, at some point in your life you've probably had someone say to you that they have to leave because they have to do a hospital visit for a loved one or go to a funeral or any other sad visit. That Moment when they say they're going to the hospital to visit their dying relative and, without looking up from your Teen Beat magazine, you say, "Okay, have fun!" *gasp* you just crossed that line. I've never done that myself, but I've seen it happening so many times with so many situations and so so many awkward faces, that I know it's one of THOSE moments.
Is it just me or when a song comes on that you're friend knows and you kind of know it, you feel obligated to have the lyrics rush into your head immediately? And you guys start awkwardly singing along like there isn't a care in the world and then comes That Moment when you totally mess up the most important line in the song.
And finally, when you accidentally run into someone on the street. That's awkward enough. Then comes That Moment when you guys try and go around each other in the same direction seven billion times before the awkward laughter and then you guys cautiously walk in different directions until you run away like "ugh did that really just happen?". Why, thank you for asking because yes, yes it did. But that's okay! You do it, I do it, we ALL do it. It's just an occurrence that happens every now and then and you just gotta move on with your life. I do have to say though, That Moment is terribly confusing and awkward at the time.

That Moment

You know That Moment when you're at the door and someone is walking to the same building you are but they are really far away from it, and yet you still decide to hold it open for them? Which then makes them feel obligated to hurry up and run to the door instead of taking the leisurely walk that they wanted. I've done that WAY too many times at school.
Okay so you know how lots of people have those Bluetooth devices to they can call people without holding a phone and it's actually this little electronic thing on their ear? You know That Moment when you see someone standing there and you don't see their Bluetooth? They start talking as if they were talking to you, and you reply when in actuality they are on their phone-like device trying to hear the call and you're just blabbing on? I've done that too many times to count. And I know you have too! Right?

So you know when you're going to McDonalds or whatever fast food restaurant you like to eat at, and you go inside and your order your meal? That is a pretty regular thing for tons of people. A few minutes after your order the person will call your number or name and say "Enjoy your meal!" Now isn't that nice of them? Of course it is. But then That Awkward Moment arrives when, out of habit, you say "Thanks, you too!" Because whenever somebody says to "enjoy your day" or "you look nice" you say "Thanks, you too!" (If you mean it. I'm not saying that I or anybody gives fake compliments). Anyway, I've seen that happen where people will tell the servers to enjoy their meal too and then look frightened and scuttle off. Why? Because its awkward! They don't get a meal. They're just being nice to you and can I just say that I have done this so so many times, and I've seen it happen to others so many times, that I would like to applaud anyone and everyone who hasn't said "thanks, you too" (or something along those lines if a fast food server says to enjoy your meal). Go on, give yourselves a pat on the back.
You know That Moment when you just thought of a really FANTASTIC joke and you're telling it to your friend and right as you're about to say the punch line, *poof*, it disappears from your mind? You just can't think of it and now you're standing there like "uhhhh then the thing did the thing and..." While you're friend is staring at you like "dude? Are you okay? Are you sick? Oh my gosh, just tell me the joke!!" I've done that a couple times but I've seen it happen more than its actually happened to me.
So, something else I've seen happen is when someone will get on your Facebook or Instagram timeline (or any other social media) and just scroll through looking at your posts and pictures and suddenly they'll find one they really like and 'like' it and then comes that moment when you realize that post from from like three years ago! Stalker! I've done this before, you've done this before, lets just give ourselves a round of applause for our prestigious accomplishment.

That Moment

You know That Moment when you are enjoying a perfectly good game of skipping stones on the Wii with your friend, and suddenly the game gets super specific about the timing of pressing and releasing buttons on the controller? Then you find yourself yelling at the TV in frustration because the Mii character won't release the stone to skip across the water. Then you realize you've been trying to skip this stone for five minutes. Then you realize your friend is sitting there with a look on their face that says "Okay, just stop. That is sad and I'm really tempted to video tape this.". Gotta love playing the Wii on a sugar rush!
You know That Moment when you're quietly reading the book for your Literature assignment, and your dog decides to hop up on the couch, shove your book out of your hand, and sit on your arm? She/he doesn't even care that you have homework. Or a life besides taking care of them. She/he just sits right on your arm and continues on licking their paws and scratching their ears like there is no problem in the world. Well, that happened to me about twenty minutes ago. Gotta love your dog though. :)
You know that moment when you type something and auto correct zooms in and "fixes" it just before you send it? Well, I know that's happened to me many times. You too! It's happened to all of us. Auto correct just loves to mess things up. It thinks it is helping, but I think I speak for all of us when I say, "it's ruining my life!" ;)
You know That Moment when you're having a friendly argument (not a real argument, just a friendly debate) and the friend you're having it with says this amazing line and you're mind just goes into this loop of "What just happened? Must reply. What just happened? Must rely. What just happened? Must reply." And you're standing there with the most embarrassing expression on your face as you have no idea how to reply with a just as awesome line. Then, two hours later you'll be sitting in your room watching a movie and you'll think of this absolutely amazing line that you could've said, but hadn't thought of yet at the time?
You know That Moment when someone says a great joke and everyone laughs but you don't get it? Then that moment when two hours later you're in a very serious situation and you just belt out laughing because you FINALLY got that joke? Except, now you're in a serious situation and you just laughed... Not in trouble, right? (Oh yeah you are).
You know That Moment when you're on your blog and you decide to quickly go to another page on safari to check something? That doesn't sound bad at all, right? But what if, thirty seconds later, you click the page that has your blog on it that you were still typing on a minute ago, and the page refreshes and your mind goes into this field of "Oh no! I just spent all that time! It was a long post and now it's DELETED :("? You go into a panic as you see the empty page title and empty text box start to appear on the slow-loading page. Then you see that everything you typed was still there, waiting for you to finish it.
You know That Moment when you are walking along the street and you see someone you think you know? That's great, right? You and them are really good friends so you wave and say "hey (insert friend name here) over here! It's me (insert your name here)!" And then you realize... That's not anyone you know. It's just a random stranger who is now looking at you like you just committed a crime.

Lemonade Mouth Review

This is a review of the movie Lemonade Mouth. I have to give it five stars. I'm not in love with the movie  because it has awesome music or the characters look amazing. I believe that the movie is very realistic. This movie is about a group of high-school 'nobodies' who are given their chance too shine through their music.
Now, they didn't have an easy time doing it. They had a few bumps along the road, but they had each other, they had their voices, and they were heard. I'm not talking about heard as in music, I'm saying that their voices, their selves, they were heard.
Lemonade Mouth showed that you don't have to hide away behind a wall, putting a defense so thick against the world that even you believe you don't have a voice. You do have a voice. You deserve to be heard! Lemonade Mouth is truly inspiring.
I used to hide behind a wall. I used to be a 'nobody'. I thought that there were separation lines between the 'cool and popular' and the 'nobodies'. But there really isn't. I moved on with my life and found people who accepted me for who I am and gave me a chance to let my voice be heard.
"What if I can't find those people?" You might ask. Well, I say, take a chance. You might think its crazy, but if you be your true self and show that you DO have a voice, you'll be so much happier than hiding behind a wall. Not just happier. Happier, healthier, and so much more confident.
If you can't find the people who will give you the chance to be heard immediately, then be heard where you are. I'm definitely not saying that you should ever give up on finding real friends who will accept you for who you are and will always let you be heard. Keep looking! You'll find them. It's never too late. But I am saying, that in the mean time, show your true self to the world! Be heard! Be proud of your voice and who you are! I want you to wake up Monday morning, go to school, and show your true self. You don't have to hide behind a wall. Let the whole world know that you have a voice that deserves to be heard. Why? Because you do.
Lemonade Mouth says exactly this. If you're ever feeling unheard or alone, watch this movie. I found it so inspiring. Make a change. You. Have. A. Voice.
